HOW TO JOIN
Scheduling
-The rehearsal process for the winter production is from August to January.
The rehearsal process for the spring production is from February to June.
-Rehearsals are every Sunday from 12:50pm-6:00pm, and there are about 20 rehearsals between auditions and tech week.
Daily calls will be sent the Friday before rehearsal, with information on who is called and the schedule for the day.
-Tech week is the week of the show, every company member is expected to be there Monday through Friday from 5:00pm-10:00pm,
and 12:00pm-11:00pm Saturday and Sunday.
This is a tuition-free student-run program for 9th-12th grade students who are ages 14-18.
-All auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be at our current venue:
BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown, MD 20874
Lots of free parking on-site, close to bus transportation and MARC station, in walkable town center with a variety of restaurants, coffee shops, grocery store, library, etc.
Student Opportunites
Auditons are held in late August for our winter production and early February for our spring production.
Auditions will be held at BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown.
Callbacks, by invitation only, will be held within two weeks after auditions.
Casting is done by our Creative Team (students) with input from the Managing Director. We are committed to fairness and equity in our casting practices. We believe our company should reflect the diverse community we live in. No roles are precast.
Cast members are encouraged to join additional committees.
Crew members have to opportunity to join the crew committees to assist in creating the production, as well as show-day support in run crew and house management. Production designers are in charge of their associated committee and responsible for final creative and logistical decisions. For information on being a designer, see the leadership tab.
Scenic Committee: Help with set construction and painting.
Lighting Committee: Help with light plot design, spotlight operation, and backstage support.
Costumes Committee: Help with quick changes and repair costumes.
Sound Committee: Help with system setup, mic adjustments and battery changes.
Props Committee: Help with creating props from scratch and sourcing real-life items to use as props.
Run Crew: Moves set pieces on and off the stage during the show, as well as provide additional backstage support where needed.
House Management: Ushers in guests, assists with seating, enforces venue rules.
Applications for leadership positions are open to past, current and future company members – anyone may apply who has an interest in leadership and is willing to commit to the process. Please note that we DO give preference to students who have taken our Free Theatre Summer Intensives in the specific subject matter. Students who are have experience and skill in these leadership areas are also welcome to apply. You may apply as an individual or as a team. If you want to apply as a team, please fill out one application and write the proposal together.
Anyone is able to join any committee. The committee fair take place on the second rehearsal of the season, where all members sign up for their desired committees after an informative presentation by committee leaders. There are 9 committees:
